In 2024, SP Comics worked with trailblazing researchers to bring their findings to life:

  • Dr. Strangebrain’s Crazy Nuclear Roulette,” a 1-page Dr. Strangelove-inspired look at the madness of Mutually Assured Destruction as nuclear policy. Based on the work of Dr. Dan Reiter, Samuel Chandler Dobbs Professor of Political Science at Emory University. Learn about Dr. Reiter.

  • How We Win: Working Together to Protect Our Democratic Freedoms,” a 21-page collaboration with The Horizons Project exploring effective community resistance against hate and political violence. The Horizons Project strives to impact the ecosystem of social change. Learn about Horizons Project.

  • Making Police Shootings More Public,” a 6-page view into the challenges of accurately quantifying police shootings. It was based on Deadly Force: Police Shootings in Urban America, by Tom S.   • Nonviolent Activism and Digital Security,” a 1-page comic (translated into multiple languages) exploring the government use of digital surveillance and misinformation and how nonviolent activists can respond. It was based on efforts by Matthew D. Cebul of the U.S. Institute of Peace and Jonathan Pickney of University of Texas at Dallas. Learn about Dr. Cebul or Dr. Pickney.

  • The Perils of Privatization: Zombie Economics,” a 9-page comic based on chapter 5 of Zombie Economics: How Dead Ideas Still Walk Among Us by John Quiggin. Dr. Quiggin is a prominent Australian economist and professor at the University of Queensland. Learn about Dr. Quiggin.

  • The Profits of Distrust: Drinking Water and Democracy,” a 12-page comic exploring the connection between eroding public trust in government and privatization of public services. It was built on work by Manny Teodoro of University of Wisconsin-Madison, Samantha Zuhlke of University of Iowa, and David Switzer of University of Missouri.   • Posters on Chinese government information collection using satellites and other methods. They are based on the work of Ryan Powers, Professor of International Affairs at the University of Georgia. Learn more about Dr. Powers.
