What is Labor Day?

As many of you are kicking back with family on the beach, sharing in a picnic or just casually reclining back in a lawn chair taking a snooze this Labor Day, it’s important to reflect on just WHAT is this holiday celebrating? Often we take certain holidays for granted, without thinking about how they came to be and what they truly are celebrating.

Our staff artist, John Delucca, worked with us in helping to explain the ins and outs of Labor Day in our latest mini-comic. John’s fantastic art style lends itself well to illustrating the details and history of the this particular event, and like all of us here at SPC, we’re all about translating and educating!

Happy Labor Day, everyone! Now back to that lawn chair…

Comics forever!

I am person over the moon about science and reading; working to keep all the goodness in the world going, growing and motivating us to partner to make beautiful—actionable—sequential art.

That was my inspiration in founding SP Comics: the idea of helping to attain the dream of living in a better world by bringing the best talents in each of us together.

My favorite tools (these days…) to create art, in order, are

  1. paint brushes and rough canvas

  2. iPad Pro, loaded with Procreate—or equally as much my Remarkable tablet

  3. excel spreadsheets

I like to listen to white noise, Bach, Tool, Stravinsky, Delta Blues and my yearly music collections while gentle sounds glide past my headphones from favorite shops, Crema and Portland Brew.
